Hi

We have a very successful site selling products in the UK. We are now looking at expanding into Europe.

We currently rank #1 for all our major keywords in the UK which results in use having over 2000 organic visits per day. We then complement this with PPC.

We would like to roll this out into Europe and work to get #1 rankings in the countries we are looking to aim at, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Belgium.

The problem is that the keywords are not the same in each country due to the language

Google also obviously put a lot of weight on which country the website is hosted so with this in mind is it best to go for a different site in each country.

This would be an intensive and expensive method as each site would need individual SEO and also the site design cost would be x5.

We have registered our domian name with .eu which we plan to use.

As all ways thank you for your comments in advance.

I would go for separate site or at least sub domains. More work I know but what's the alternative?

You will need to treanslate your site into the 5 languages whatever you do or have I misunderstood? If so, the new language pages will need SEO.

The one consideration you may have (which I didn't when I created a new site in Russian) is corporate identitity. You may want to link the different language versions to one corporate site. I think (I'm an amateur on this) corporate identity can be achieved by using sub domains.

Hi Jason ,

You mentioned in you recent forum , that google puts alot of effort into where a website is hosted.

I am looking for starting a website which needs to be hosted somewhere and im looking at what the implications are of having the website hosted in the US versus the UK.

If I host in the US ,will the majority of my traffic be in the US and likewise for a UK site ?

Or for a us hosted site will my site rank high in google.us (and how about google.com ) and for a uk site a high ranking for google.co.uk ?

I will post this message in the forum question as well.

Regards

Malcolm

Check out the Google webmaster tools. You can set a site's preferred regional market there. However, if you already have a ccTLD like .co.uk, then Google will tell you that they already target your site for the UK.
