International Users Using USA Proxy?

 9:34 pm on Jul 8, 2012 (gmt 0)

I've been noticing international users signing up on my website tend to be using a USA proxy.

Is this normal? Do international users tend to use a USA proxy this way they can have access tp more USA websites like Hulu, Youtube, etc?

I know sometimes fraudulent users like to use a USA proxy to submit fake orders that are being shipped to a USA shipping address, but the sign ups I've been receiving seem legit and are being shipped to their own country so it just makes me wonder why not use their own ISP settings to sign up to my website instead of going through a USA proxy?

Thank you,

Yes, we international users sometimes use US proxies, but the reasons are mainly to get around the US-only restrictions imposed by some sites. Depending on their reasons to use the proxy, some of their PCs sit on that IP address all day long, regardless of what site they are visiting.

Oh ok; but by using a US proxy is your internet speed slower, or is the internet speed not that much slower and that's why international users would use that IP address all day long?

Most users are just lazy, once a connection is create they stay with it. I have known people who never close anything once they open it until the machine gets switched off on Friday night.

Or like me in Australia on my work laptop (global company based in the US) appears as if I'm in Houston Texas when on the internet. And performance isn't much slower than when I connect direct.
