Integrate or new domain - ecommerce

I have a Joomla site with virtuemart. We manufacture products and sale direct. I use virtumart to sale small items related to our main product lines. I am seeing where the ecommerce side could really be expanded to include an array of products related our market. I'm trying to figure out whether to build upon virtumart, go with ecommercetemplates (or others) in a folder or just link to a new domain better suited for the array of products I would like to eventually offer.

Our main website it more of a manufactures website. We have 5 main brands by us that we market through it. The 5 brands are pretty custom and require truck freight so ecommerce doesn't work for those. I kind of feel like if I add all the ecommerce into the existing site it may confuse people as to what we exactly do. Virtuemart installed and setup pretty easy but is somewhat limited and tied to joomla. I have yet to find a good ecommerce package that bridges to joomla. I feel like I would be better to use a stand-alone ecommerce so I have more options in the future.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
