Hi everyone. My name is Alvin, and I'm a software developer.

My co-founder and I have recently launched a new group deal application/add-on for online stores.

-Basically, our add-on allows retailers to run deals.

-Deals are by default inactive and require group action to unlock.

-Only way to unlock deal is by clicking the Facebook Like button of the deal.

-Deals each have a Like threshold. Once the Like threshold is reached, the deal is open to its participants only.

-Participants have incentive to share with friends, i.e. to reach Like threshold faster. Others have incentive to Like it more urgently to "squeeze into" the deal before it hits its Like limit.

Benefits are to build traffic and increase brand visibility on Facebook, plus list-building.

What do you think of the product concept?

It's a great idea but there's no guarantee the people who 'liked' it will ultimately participate.

A pretty good idea. I know of a start up in eastern Canada doing a similar thing called "Living Social"

Another thought. What is the cost of this service?

@Greenbeetle We are charging $9.95/mth at the moment. No doubt, there is no guarantee that they will ultimately participate, but clicking Like helps retailers to build traffic from Facebook, and increase visibility, on a large scale... beyond what their Fan pages can do. In fact, we complement their Fan Page strategies by helping to acquire fans as well. E.g. "Click Like to participate in this deal, Like the fan page to be informed of the next deal".
