Buying/selling/evaluating websites

I find the idea of websites being bought and sold - and there possibly being jobs similar to that of a financial analyst (just for websites, not shares) in this field very exciting.

Then someone whose opinion I paid a lot of attention to told me this wasn't gonna happen.

Yesterday, I realized that on a tiny webmaster forum where I hang out and know people personally 2 of 6 of them have been approached and asked to sell their websites to companies.

Are these 2 guys I know exceptions or are companies already out there chasing other peoples' websites evaluating how much they can pay to make it a profitable investment?

thanks!

There's definitely a market, and websites that exist for facilitating people to sell/buy websites (Google it). I can say as a small business owner, who does nothing but run a handful of websites that I "invented" and developed, I've been looking for some other small, not-so-successful sites, to buy so that I can upgrade them and add them to my collection of sites. New ideas are hard to come Unfortunately, most of the websites I've seen listed for sale, on the previously mentioned listing sites, are things like cell phone forums, or other ideas that lack any creativity or originality. But there are definitely people out there like me, and even larger companies, that know that the next big internet site might have already been created and is just in the "wrong" hands.
