Page Sizes & Conversion

With .js files getting larger, wondering what other people are targeting as their page sizes.

I currently use my own custom generated static pages on the front end, about 70k with javascript and css. And it is really fast.

I was looking at moving to a php shopping cart, but the page size is 190K compressed, about 40K in CSS and 100K in Javascript. I guess when the cart is meeting the needs of many different people, it results in a lot of bloat.

Wondering, what other thoughts are on target page size and conversion rates. I am probably not going to move to the new cart because of this, but feel trapped by the features of my current cart.

Personally, I wouldn't consider 70k fast; as for 190k compressed I wouldn't go near it.

page load matters hugely; I've learnt that to my cost when we had a site reengineered.
