Domain name theft nightmare

Msg#: 4467515 posted 5:54 am on May 14, 2012 (gmt 0)

Just want to give a quick reminder to anyone out there that buys/sells web sites...

Never, ever transfer your domain unless you use an escrow service or receive payment FIRST.

I just went through an ordeal and most of the time I take the above advice. But this time I was stupid and thought I could trust the "company". After all, they had a slick looking web site, contact information, phone number and even a map to their work location!

Had I done a little more research I would have uncovered a news story that shows the person who almost scammed me is actually an ex-con... and I guess a current con man.

Luckily, I was able to get my domain back, but just barely.

I think with a bad global economy, internet crime is at an all time high... so just be careful out there, folks... and do lots of research.
