New domain for existing site
How to best migrate to new domain

Hi all,
I have an existing site (i.e. currentsite.com) with lots of traffic.

That domain name is now less relevant and I want to start moving everything to a new domain (newsite.com).

I already own the newsite.com domain which currently just redirects to currentsite.com.

Should I simply copy all my files to the new domain and host it there and then redirect all the traffic from currentsite.com to newsite.com?

Is that the best way to keep search rankings in order? And what if I choose to sell the domain currentsite.com which again is getting good traffic.

Any suggestions, especially from those who've done this, are much appreciated.

The official method!

[googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com...]

I do my 301 with a url-forward through my domain name registrar's control panel.
