A domain of mine lapsed into redemption. Part of the problem is that I won it at snapnames and it went to answerable, who isn't who I use for most domains, and I never bothered to transfer it across to consolidate. No matter. I DID go through their convoluted renewal process, which includes loading up "Credit" separately to submitting it for renewal plus some other step. Anyway, somehow, - maybe it was me - it slipped into redemption period today. They sent me a polite email saying I had 30 days to cough up $85 and they would take it out of redemption. half an hour after recieving that, I sent them a polite email saying that I believed I had already renewed that domain, so it shouldn't be in redemption. Now this is the bit that really is unbelievable. 10 minutes later, they sent me another email saying that the domain was now permanently DELETED, that there was nothing I could do to recover it, but I might want to invest in a drop catching service if I was interested in getting it back.
The only way I can interpret this is that it's some kind of childish payback for me complaining to them that I had already renewed my domain. It was, after all, within 10 minutes of me writing to them. And earlier that day they told me I had plenty of time to get that domain out of redemption for the right price.
Are domain registrars that petty?
Anyway... suffice it to say that I am hopping mad. Not that there's anything I can do about it. It's gone. It was a good domain too.

Just a belated follow up, I sorted everything out with answerable by the way. They fixed the problem and restored me to 'redemption' and from there I did a simple renew. I guess it was just a system error or something. I don't care because the problem's fixed (and I've kept it registered with them). It's all good.
