If you are not worried what the letters are you can pick up 4 letter .coms for $50-$100 in the expired auctions, however better letter combinations tend to fetch higher prices.
I've sold what I thought was a very mediocre 4 letter .com for $2,000 and conversely never had an enquiry on some of the ones I thought were much more likely to be wanted.

thanks for your response IanTurner. No, I am not looking for just random 4 letter names. Its pretty specific. But not the best to pronounce. Its an acronym for another domain I recently purchased.

Never mind! I spoke to the sales guy on the phone and negotiated. I brought down the price to $1,100 and paid for it. now im waiting for it to transfer.
It took me 2 phone calls and 5 emails :)
Jesus, how come this addiction doesnt go away? I promised myself not to buy a domain again ;) But this time I have big plans and will put many many hours on it :)

Hey aren't you the same chap that just quit your job? Shouldn't you be saving your money and cutting expenses?!?! ;-)
The addiction is hard to fight. I recently dropped 1k on a keyword.org thinking G still gave auto props to such names when folks searched for keyword. Particularly since the com and net were not in use. Guess things have changed since I don't show up until page 4. ;-)

$1100 is a pretty good price for a four letters .com domain, nice deal mate. :)
