.me Registration Opens [marketwatch.com]July 17, 2008
|The .ME Registry officially opens for live, real-time registrations in the new .ME domain at 15:00UTC July 17, 2008. Companies, organizations and members of the public can now get a Web presence that is truly personal, and have their new Web site working within minutes! |
"The .ME registry live registration ushers in a new era of personalization on the Internet," said Predrag Lesic, the registry's executive director. "We were excited to see the innovative and catchy new names that were registered during Landrush, and now this brand new top level domain is open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis."
The "landrush" period has already passed. Does this mean that when registration opens, all the premium names will have already gone?

For the most part, yep. I managed to get a good one for me, but all the really premium ones I've thought of are already taken.
I just ran through my entire dot-me wish list (about 100 names). They're all gone.
I wonder who got "with.me" and "to.me"? the subdomain opportunities are fantastic.
to.me is not a possible name to register because two letter names on new TLDs are reserved (at least to this point, who knows with anyTLD what will happen).
I happen to like action words that are sub domainable, so I checked an obvious one and amazingly it and two other related names were available... so it goes. ;-)
I 've found quite a few tempting names and can visualise developing them, but
does any one know if the domain name is very "individual person" focussed ,
What i mean is, can it be treated like .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz with are used nowadays for just about anything but where clearly intended for specific user groups
at £10/$20 it wouldn't be funny acquiring a bundle of these an then have to let em slide :)
do you think that .me domains will only be used for personal use or do you think businesses will use them too?
I would guess that businesses will use .me - I know that I plan to use one for a travel campaign related to a two letter .com travel site I operate. I did the same thing with a .travel name we also have.
From the perspective of Search engines, has anyone ideas of how geographical targeting will work
.com,.net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi are definitely treated as international by google, and can be targetted at any country
MSN appears to assign all of the above to the USA
But .me :)
Okay , I succumbed got a couple of nice names, by my lowly standards anyway. However, I think their usefulness lies more in developing rather than domaining with them
