sometime I come across at some strange domain names, that use everything to compone the website name such as delicious -> [del.icio.us....]
What do you think? stupid? clever? allright?
and what about SEO? it doesn't matter, good, bad, etc...

[edit reason] Please, no personal domains. "Example.com" is our favorite "for example" domain [/edit]

They can work, as demonstrated by Del.icio.us, but the number of examples of such domains "working" is what?
1 in 10,000,000?
This type of website naming convention is a contrivance, at best.
What worked for Del.icio.us was a) their new technology/system; and, b) the novelty of their domain choice attached to that technology.

Actually, it seems like the flagship "funny domain" is being changed from del.icio.us to delicious.com according to: [techcrunch.com...]

I agree w/ WW. del.icio.us had a new technology and a fancy domain, but really, with .us as a TLD, then that opens the door for many others, even just moving the dots around. I won't post specifics, but you can easily have your own delicious domain.
Add in any other words that end in US and you can have a gold mine, or a fools gold mine.
Who knows what the future will bring, but I do not see a trend devoloping from this other then a few niche sites.

Yep! The .it extension is also very popular for this kind of domain name.
Well, you can always try.it!

Del.icio.us broke new ground in domains but they're still a novelty.
Such domains are worthless from a domaining point of view: domainers and big business are interested mostly in .com.
From an SEO point of view, it makes no difference.
However, such domains are not a bad idea from a marketing perspective.
