What are everyone's thoughts on paying $300 to list in the Yahoo directory?
Also are they really so strict with commercial listings? What would be classified as a commercial listing?
Has anyone been listed through the free route and, if so, how long has it taken?

I have two listings in Yahoo's directory, and both were obtained via free submission. In each case, it took less than a week to get listed from the time I submitted.
Having had these two listings for some months now, I can't say I would pay $300 dollars to submit to the directory. Direct referrals are few and far between, despite my sites having great placement within the directory.
I haven't really noticed any residual effects from being listed, such as increased search engine rankings. It may have helped bump my PR up a bit, for whatever that is worth (not much, in my opinion).

What sort of category did you submit to for a free listing? I have submitted 10 sites (respectable, small-medium sized sites, nice serps) and not a single one has got a free listing.

Its not worth it, also take a look at the listings, they have not been updated for ages, many 404 sites listed for years, also there is no traffic on the directories ok also not on yahoo search, I say it not worth it.
