Are directory links considered spam or otherwise devalued by search engines? Is there evidence for a devaluing of directory links OR their heightened value? lfgoal msg:3211227 1:45 pm on Jan 7, 2007 (gmt 0) Do search engines consider directory links spam?
If so, it would be interesting to hear the reasons why.
In my opinion, I think they CAN be spam, but are not necessarilym so. In other words, I don't think you can generalize.

The search engines will be using far far more sophisticated generalizations than "is a directory" -- and in fact they'll be using a completely different kind of generalization, since "is a directory" is not an automatically identifiable attribute of either a site or a page. lfgoal msg:3219099 6:06 pm on Jan 14, 2007 (gmt 0)
