Depends what sort of directory that you speak of. We list customers in local directories and they do get qualified leads from these places. So in our case the answer would be Yes and Yes. Directories that we do not expect to get alot of traffic from but we use because we know it would help there site eventually become an authority include directories such as DMOZ.

I got listed in some high alexa directories, and it indeed sent some traffic, but nothing great. In the end, everything adds up IMO.

Yes, I get a good deal of traffic from directories. It is more of a cumulative thing. I try to submit to a couple of directories each day, and over time there are a lot of incoming links, and I find a few directories send me regular traffic. I also have done well with submitting to directories in terms of ranking for keywords on search engines as a result of the anchor text.

i have submitted to all big directorys and to be honest i hardly get any traffic from them all, maybe 1 hit a day if i am lucky, i guess it must be the category i am listed in.
