Error:- exceeded the 'max user connections' resource

Hi, I am getting this error.

Could not connect: User '#*$!xx' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 40)

on my php database, from what I can tell too many connections have been started and not closed down - for some reason, I dont know why.

I have checked the connection string and it is not the problem.

I am on a shared host so I have limited options.

any ideas on how to get the site up again?

Your shared host will likely have to kill the jobs/connections or restart the mysql daemon. Next, you will need to figure out why your connections are hanging and update your code to resolve the issue.

If you are not certain where to start you could monitor the connection script by logging any errors with a full trace and dumping it to a log. (Throw a new exception error within a try/catch block).
