Has anyone ever done a css dropdown navigation where the subitems when hover happens it not only changes the background/font color but also adds two images to the outside of the li hover?

Thanks in advance.

I think I would approach this by not attempting to have images on the 'outside', but have all the other elements padded, so there is 'gap' in which to show the additional image so that it looks like it's on the outside but in reality it is just contained within the element, but fills it.
