Hi, All you need is a plugin that convert your dynamic page's URL into a SEF (static pages) URL when requested. Once you have that SEF (search engine friendly or static like page) google will crawl and index that page into its search index. Although google can crawl your dynamic pages (pages with ?) as well. It really does not matter the pages exist on the server or not. Since a CMS driven site really do not have the physical pages present on the server (otherwise what is the use of CMS?) so you need not to worry about that.

Any gallery plug in for either Wordpress or Joomla would let you have a details page for each individual photo. It's pretty easy and once you install a suitable gallery plugin you will certainly find it quicker to manage than Dreamweaver sites you have been doing.

zabalex and qcloud, thank you for your responses! Both are great information. I've looked at the ever-popular Nextgen in wordpress and with hacks (another plugin) I can manually dictate a page for each photo to open in, then manually create each page. I'm looking at converting a site with a few thousand pages - that's a lot of pages to recreate! I guess there is no way around creating all those pages again one by one in a CMS. That's what I was really wondering.

Drupal and use the feeds module. You can import automatically. It's not simple though. Probably take a day to figure out the import process alone.
