How to Edit 2 Recent Post Loops in WP?

Hi guys,

I'm editing 2010 theme and wonder if there's a way to do this.

I want my index page to look similar to this:

just main top part I'm talking about.

Basically, the most recent post to be formatted with big image, in larger area. And the rest of the posts regular, smaller.

I figured maybe I could add 2 loops, limit 1st loop to 1 most recent post only. And remove most recent post from second loop. This way no duplicate content and I'd achieve what I want. Or maybe there's some better way?

Problem is I have no idea how to do that. No programming knowledge here.

Maybe you can recommend a plugin or some scrpt to do this?
