I am using the Fabrik plugin to build forms in joomla.

I was wondering if it is possible, or even necessary, to use https.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

thanks,

chris

(yes I will also ask this question in the fabrik forums but thought a second opinion would be good especially when security is involved)

Hey Chris,

What information are you accepting?

I know you're pretty savvy, but just to state the basics anyway, SSL will do nothing to stop your site from getting hacked with cross-site scripting, SQL injection or any of that.

Nor will it protect your users if they have a key logger on their machine or if you store the information in your database and your site gets compromised.

All it does it encrypt the data so that if it's intercepted en route, it will be difficult to decipher.

So of you're taking social security numbers or anything like that, you probably want to do it over SSL.

If you're taking credit card numbers, you must do it over SSL or pass it off to a third-party (i.e. Paypal style)... but presumably you're not taking CC numbers through a simple form.
