Joomla category menu item - behavior

 4:49 pm on May 9, 2009 (gmt 0)

I am just getting started with joomla and noticed something odd.

I have a section in the menu with three categories. I set the section to Articles/section and the categories to Articles/Categories/Blog in the menu setup.

If I click on the section in the menu, I get a list of the categories under that section. Now, here is what I don't understand:

If I click on a category item from the menu I get the category coming up in the blog layout i want. However, if I click on the category as listed in the body of the page for the section, it comes up in an article list format.

Is this the way it is supposed to work or is there a way to make it show the category in the blog format when you click on the item in the section page?

I figured it out. I changed the layout to a /blog layout and don't have a problem any more.

That still leaves the issue as to why it works the way it does but for now, I'm not going to worry about it.

In Joomla, the content layout is always controlled by the menu item settings. You can even have two separate menu items linking to the same content (section, category, etc) but with different "presentation" (layout).

It's kinda hard to grasp at first, but it's really flexible once you play around with the settings/parameters.

Sdedhia - Sorry this took so long to get back to you, I was out of the country for a week and everything got way behind.

anyway, it was in the menu manager. Under Menu Item Type, i picked Section Blog Layout. If you are doing a category you would pick Category Blog Layout.

again, sorry for the delay in replying.

Its easy, just change the content layout into category blog layout, and set in the parameters the number of articles that you want to display in the content. That's simple!
