good morning

i'm an italian student, and for my thesis' work i've to create a social network service for an important library of my town (in theory the sns should facilitate the interaction between the users of the library and the research of books and documents by the staff).
in the first part of my work i've to analyze the existing tools (f.e. NING) and software (f.e. ELGG, DRUPAL) for build a social network, finding features, differences, etc..
then i'll choose (better, my supervisor will choose) the support for the service and the social network will be created.

the features i need are:
-blog
-groups
-uploading files, documents, photo and video
-moderation

i would ask you some advices:
-can you help me to find the most of the existing tools? i know ning, elgg, drupal, hurox, kwiqq. any?
-in your opinon, which is the best?
initially ning appears the most complete and the most powerful, but my supervisor thinks that a software is better than a tool.

thank you very very much, and sorry for my approximate english

Carlo

Carlo,

Welcome! Sorry this one got buried. Sorry there haven't been any responses.

Whether or not to use Ning is sort of like the question of whether to use blog software or just use blogger. Will ning let you run it on your own domain and backup data regularly?

Is so and it's already got what you want...
