Current Health Status of Site Message Adding
Add Adjustable Health of Site Customizable Message

Need assistance with a way to add messages to a website that are customizable and changeable with ease as non savies will be working with this.

I need to implement a way to be able to adjust, change, update one simple part of one page.

Location: One page would be like this url as an example = [sitestatus.site.com...]

This company has locations nationwide, the CTO/IT Department want a simple way to be able to add messages & let employees of the company know the current health of the site.

We want to be able to allow these people to goto sitestatus.site.com and see the status/issues/problemss of the company.

So employees nationwide can visit this one page and see messages like the following.

1) Web Based Servers are Down, Please Wait 20 Minutes for us to Repair.
2) E-mail servers are down, expected fix time 20 minutes

We want to be able to have this page easy to add these messages to and remove them (Add/erase messages), so maybe a script, maybe some sort of simple user interface setup someone else has created before?

Any help is appreciated, please sticky me on WebmasterWorld.

Help is very much appreciated... as always!

An RSS feed would be perfect for that sort of data. Just display the feed on your selected page and update the feed with your chosen software.

Suggestions on which ones to use? Examples, etc?

Also there must be other ways no, need to keep this simple, this needs to have an add erase feature for messages.

Suggestions on which ones to use?

Which one what? "RSS feed"? There isn't "one" to choose - RSS is RSS is RSS. It's a matter of setting up a page that provides the data in the RSS format. The user's RSS browser then periodically checks the page to see if there is anything new in the feed.

Some companies that provide RSS services try to cloud the issue. You don't need to involve any third party to set-up an RSS feed.

But this is a peripheral issue.

The easiest solution for your basic problem is a text file that contains the current status, that is included into an HTML page using a server-side include.

If editing a text file is too techie for your users (but since this is for updates on system status, it may not be too techie) then, as you suggest, you might want a simple script for posting, editing, and erasing messages.

Any blog or CMS software certainly will do this, but would probably be overkill.

I'd do a search for "site notice" or "notes" scripts.

JTARA

Appreciate your suggestions a ton, still looking into this.

My client wants it to be more advanced then a simple text change using basic html changes which I had suggested to begin with but now they want the ability to simply add, erase messages on the same viewable page.

I am still looking for suggestions from the awesome WebmasterWorld folks... everyone please assist if ya can.

:0)

Added - a "Post it notes" script may work awesome as I think they (my client) wants it to be eye appealing to the company users, anyone have any code for such thing?
