Opinions on forcing "read more at http://example.com" into clipboard
What do members think about forcing links into the clipboard when copying

I have seen a couple authority sites doing this now and I am wondering how it is being received as I am considering doing this on a couple of my sites.

For those not familiar what happens is, when you copy any piece of text from an article an additional string is added to the clipboard that says

Read more at: example.com/link/to/page/copying/from

I have noticed this on sites like "cracked" and "searchenginejournal"

I am wondering what people think of this practice. Good/Bad?

I can see the benefit to content creators, without noticing someone can copy and paste your text into a forum post and this will ensure that you get a link back, but on the downside what I copy and paste should be what gets copied and pasted and it could be considered intrusive to override someone's clipboard like that.

i do it, and its good for getting a few backlinks. a lot of scrapers dont bother removing the link, which is good. and if you write a decent script then you can randomly change an array of phrases around too, so you dont always have the same link text.

You may do on your site whatever you wish. If someone considers copying from your site, they shall not consider you intrusive.

The most you'll gain is just a few backlinks.

The scrapers copy+paste works different, so your link would not appear on their feed.

I am doing it. I am going to set up some tracking on the link text so I can see track to see if we gain some backlinks for all this.
