Hiring News Reporters, But How To Reach Profitability
We are about to hire news reporters, but how can we reach profitability?

Our company is at a point that we can and want to hire news reporters. Few part time news writers to cover news.

However, we know that what they cover can't help us to cover their expenses. Our hope is that in few months it will. As we may have more return visitors.

Question.

1. Is it better to ask them to write what is top news?

2. Is it better to ask them to take a big topic and continuously cover that topic daily, few stories, followups and so on about that topic so people slowly know that our site is the place to go for that topic.

How have you done to reach profitability if you have gone the same path?

Thank you.

That all depends on the sectors in which you serve, the nature of the site, it's purpose, reader demographics, current revenue streams and a whole lot more...

Without being too specific, can you give a bit of background?

Ok, thanks. Another question then. How do you get your news presently?

Unique and exclusive content, but I would really appreciate solutions.

You're not giving much here that helps anyone get an insight into your current set up! Without an understanding of organisational structures how can anyone provide advice?

Who creates this unique and exclusive content? Is it done inside the organisation or are you contracting third parties to provide it for you.

If you have 'unique and exclusive' content - and you're a publisher of general news - then where do the news reporters that you want to hire fit in? Are you looking to expand your news coverage, break into new sectors, provide greater depth in existing sectors - what exactly?

Need a bit more info from you...

yes, we have reporters in the house who make good research. Should they be covering what's news, or just stick to assigned industries to get following?

Erku..

honestly and directly it depends on many variables and needs.

I think that what you need is not input from a bunch of strangers on a message board, you need to seek out and engage an advisory board for your business.

Firstly, variety is very important in both print as well as visual media or say any media. If you ask the reporters to cover top news that could be more than profitable since that will attract readers, but if you ask them to stick to certain topics, it'll make it monotonous and you'll lose on your readers.
