Community Building and User Generated Content Forum

Wiki Participation

I recently started a niche focused wiki 6 weeks ago and started to generate decent traffic through reddit, facebook and twitter. On average I get 500 unique visitors per day, my problem is that I am having a hard time getting people to post content.

I would appreciate any ideas that wiki owners might have or tricks you have used to get people to post.

Will search engines get mad if you ask your friends to pre-seed the site with made-up posts? Sometimes people just don't like to be first.

Did you seed the wiki?

If so, how many posts/articles?

so far I have posted about 50 articles and I am trying to divide my time between writing more and promoting the site.

what are your thoughts about incentives? I was thinking about giving away a few popular study guides that students use to pass their credentialing exams after graduation.

At a guess a combination of the increasing reluctance by people to contribute anything more complex than a Tweet and perhaps others not realising that your wiki is open to contributions.

I have a fairly active forum community and even with a built in community getting them to use the wiki for static articles was a giant flop.
