Is integrating Facebook comments useful?
does it work?

 2:01 pm on Feb 4, 2012 (gmt 0)

A year or two ago all the big sites were integrating FB comments, now I don't see any with it.

What happened? Did it not work well technically? Did no one use it? Did it siphon off traffic to FB?

I'm looking into it for a new site, with the goal of engaging users and bringing them in from FB.

Any suggestions?

I used to view Facebook as a community competitor, and nuked all FB links, etc. As they became ubiquitous, though, they became more like infrastructure. My community members were all on Facebook anyway, and by doing more with integration now FB is a major traffic source. Be sure to enable traffic drivers like sharing on FB for actions like joining, posting a new thread, etc.

Thanks for the Saturday morning response!

I should have been more specific: I'm asking about embedding the FB "comments" component through FB connect (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments/) - has anyone found this useful or problematic?

As far as comments are concerned, yes their number increased a lot.

But for SEO purposes, I have seen nothing yet.

Really interested in what other people have to say.
