The power of the platform.

Allow/enable your visitor to store/create something so that they feel it is theirs rather than yours and have more of an incentive to link to it/tell people about it.

Facebook Like buttons and other social sharing options are great for adding viral action. Twitter is one obvious one, but see what else would apply to your topic and user base. I've had good luck with LinkedIn, Stumbleupon, and Reddit, for example, but what works for you will depend on the vertical you are in.

...good old real life networking,

my content with the most buzz and links are from top experts in my niche, those i met at trade fares, exhibits or book signing over a casual beer or two, we became friends and they do stuff for me for free where they would charge a fortune if someone else wants that, and the beauty is that they promote it for me on their sites, social networks... I know its old school and many webmaster forgotten about that, just saying...

....now back to web 2.0...
