|Getting Users To Post|
| 2:12 am on Jul 29, 2010 (gmt 0)|
I have a fairly popular website, on a fairly popular topic. Used to get 2-3 user reviews a week, and that was when you had to be a registered user to post!
A couple months ago, I decided I wanted more user posts, so I upped the visibility on the site, and made it so anyone can post.
You guessed it- nothing. Nada.
Any ideas how to help drive users to post reviews?

If this is about products you can afford to give away, maybe give every N-th poster of a review such a product? Or if the products themselves are too expensive, a gadget which is related to the product.

My site is an info site, not a sales site. I am mindful of the site rules, so best to say that my site deals with something that most people are already familiar with, in one form or another. I am sure that were you so inclined, there are at least 100 items on my site that you could review without referencing anything or anyone.
That said, I did try a DVD give away last month. In three weeks, I got 4 reviews. Maybe I should try that again... maybe it will do better second time around.
Like I said, I thought I had made it MUCH easier to post- no registration required, made the links more prominent, even posted an appeal to let us know what you think.

Consider FAME as a reward. Post a snippet of the latest review with the reviewer's avatar (if you use them) on the home page or similar high-traffic location.

Been doing that. The five most recent reviews are posted on the front page. Most recent? July 08, 2010!
