Suggestions for Classmates Type Community
Anything out of the box or what's best solution?

Is it possible to build an online community similiar to classmates.com or other alumni sites without a programing background? Ideally, I'd like to purchase software that would allow me to (easily) set up and offer community features such as those found on Ning and other social networking sites . I'd like to to have a sign up page with all schools listed by: State/City/School Name. I'd like each schools area very simple to navigate and easy to administer. Have thought of just using Ning but the platform is not seamless (wouldn't have 100% control) and would be limiting in other areas too. Does anyone have any suggestions? Have been looking at Joomla, but at this point it is beyond by limited comprehension. I can build the hell out of a social network in terms of setting one up by using the tools offered by an exhisting platform ..but that's the extent of my skills. I guess what I am asking is: Can I put together an alumni site with social network features without starting from scratch or what's the best way to accomplish this with limited cash? Thanks.

My first thought would have been Ning, but you have already considered that. Any other ideas for malomalo?
