I want to add the buttons that say "bookmark this page" and has a number of links to various social network sites such as Digg & del.icio.us

I've search for information but got nowhere.

Someone somewhere in webmaster world will hold the answer...I'm sure

Hi, Peewhy, what kind of technology are you using to generate the pages? If it's something like Wordpress, there are plugins you can install quite easily.

...'technology' .... aaagghhh!

I thought one obtained the script from a resource and pasted it into the code!

So, it looks like I need to investigate Wordpress?

Not sure if this is what you mean but you can use Javascript to add a bookmark

window.external.AddFavorite('http://www.example.com','Example Site');

It may be, thanks.

I've seen 'BOOKMARK THIS PAGE IN DIGG' with various other social networking sites.

That code will add a local favorite, but generally to post in social networking sites you'll need a link that includes some parameters, like the page URL, the article title, etc.

You can find these easily for common blog and CMS programs where these items are stored as php variables. If you want to take the simplistic approach, you could just put in a link to the social network's submission page, but you'll force the user to populate the fields himself.

Make sure your user base is familiar with such social sites before adding them all. I ran a few of these links in the past. Most of my users had never heard of these services. Nor did they care to use them.

I ends up replacing them with features my users found way more helpful:

- bookmark (browser bookmark)
- printable page link
- email this page

These get used 20 times more than any of those social links ever did. And they are just as useful if not more at providing additional exposure for your site.
