URL -n- IP Address duplicates in phpBB
Why is the URL and the IP address of the topics showing up?

 4:14 pm on Jul 6, 2007 (gmt 0)

I have a quick question for those who use phpBB or a forum.

I have topics showing up in the SERPs for many years but in the past few months the IP is coming up on a lot of results instead of the URL.

is now showing up as:

66.443.213.33/forum/viewtopic####.php (I made the IP up)

Nowhere do I have a link to the IP address for my site, so I'm curious why or how Google is pulling up the IP for threads and posts instead of the URL?

Just curious, not life or death...thanks!

It could be an external link, too. And if some or all of the URLs are relative, then links on that page will also have the IP address version.

This could be causing you problems with duplicate content and can dilute your PageRank. I'd redirect to your preferred domain (www or non-www) usage in the .htaccess file.

I could've sworn we had that redirect already, but I was surprised to find otherwise. Thanks for the heads up.
