|Duplicate posts on front page and category pages, Wordpress|
| 8:59 am on Apr 19, 2012 (gmt 0)|
I am setting up a blog and I am gonna be assigning one post to one category so I am not gonna have an issue of duplicate conent (and that way I can allow /category directory in robots.txt), but at the same time all of the post that are currently listed on the home page (lets say six) will be duplicate content (front page + category pages). I know that there is a plugin that shows excerpts of posts on the home page and full posts on category pages, but I would want to have full posts on the home page, as this is going to be the site visited most often etc, and my main landing page.
Is there any way to get around something like that and avoid dupicate content (temporary excluding front page posts from category pages, rotating as newer ones are written etc). I dont thin it is something that important, but maybe there is a way to get around that somehow etc...

There are various options.
You could use rel=canonical to ensure there are no issues and the /category version of the page is considered to be the real version.
You could use exerpts and the <--more> tag to write unique snippets to appear on the homepage so there's no duplication at all.
You could assign a static page as your homepage and have customised landing page text instead of the full articles.
The first option is your best bet if you're set on having the full posts displayed on the homepage though.

I think you need some plugin to check the same.
Other plugins are also there, check them in wordpress()org.

A good plugin I use (I have no relationship with this plug in), is SEO yoast, that will allow you to noindex, follow all category and archive pages and tags (I never use tags).
Then as mentioned above use the <!--more--> in the post, so only a few sentences is shown on the homepage and cetegory pages.
It will only then be the actual post page that will show the full content,

You can for example index to google pages that are unique, rest You can block in robot.txt and .htaccess and here we go, no duplicate contest for google!
