South Korea Social Network Hacked engine msg:4344962 1:25 pm on Jul 28, 2011 (gmt 0) South Korea Social Network Hacked [ bbc.co.uk]
South Korea has blamed Chinese hackers for stealing data from 35 million accounts on a popular social network. The attacks were directed at the Cyworld website as well as the Nate web portal, both run by SK Telecom. Hackers are believed to have stolen phone numbers, email addresses, names and encrypted information about the sites' many millions of members.

Cyworld is probably the oldest and largest SNS in Korea. It predates Facebook and MySpace if I recall. Our resident Korea experts could probably tell us more, but I remember that Korean SNS required a lot more detailed private information upon registration. I don't know if that's still the case. That could make this case a bit spookier.
