We will soon be taking our web site / service into the Chinese market. Is there any benefit or problems with having it hosted in Hong Kong or the mainland?

Today we have a North American site I'll call yadayada.com.

We are going to create a Chinese language version that will be either:

yadayada.com.cn and or yadayada.cn

We want to be picked up by search engines in China and it is the local Chinese market we are targeting.

What are the drawbacks to using the same California based hosting service that runs the main site?

Do we need to have an IP address that is Chinese? Is there such a thing?

Thx
