Status 308 for Permanent Redirect. g1smd msg:4528515 9:32 pm on Dec 15, 2012 (gmt 0) Not sure how I missed this before: [ ...] tools.ietf.org It's proposed to use 308 for Permanent Redirects to pair with 307 for Temporary Redirects. The relationship with 301, 302 and 303 has several issues.

This Internet-Draft will expire on September 27, 2012. Wouldn't you think that if it's made it as far as IANA [ iana.org] ("Last Updated 2012-11-30") it would have a less temporary-looking reference? g1smd msg:4528543 11:48 pm on Dec 15, 2012 (gmt 0)
Ah, maybe that's not the latest version of the document, or else the proposal has died already. I didn't notice the expiry date. phranque msg:4528681 2:15 pm on Dec 16, 2012 (gmt 0)
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-reschke-http-status-308-07 [ tools.ietf.org]:
Internet-Drafts are draft documents valid for a maximum of six months... lucy24 msg:4528745 8:36 pm on Dec 16, 2012 (gmt 0)
Yes, that's why I was surprised to find IANA listing the code and linking to the same document. I thought they were supposed to be the final word. Wonder what they changed at the end of November? (Paradoxically: When "last updated" is today's date I get suspicious, but if it's the day before yesterday I assume it's current.)
