How to change Wordpress into static website
without using the HTML option

I'm redesigning an old website built with Wordpress so it's full of code bloat, 11 css files and 12 Javascripts, deprecated code, etc. etc. The site takes 12 seconds to load because of all the code bloat.

The owner doesn't have time to use the blog so I want to set up the new website outside of Wordpress.

I understand you can save Wordpress pages as HTML however I want to start with a blank slate and clean code.

I don't have access to the server yet but I assume Wordpress was designated as the home page, so I'm wondering if there is anything I have to do in htaccess besides load the pages outside of Wordpress?

You can easily configure this so that the site uses the exact same URLs as before.

You'll route extensionless URL requests to the static files using an internal rewrite.
