Google Analytics - doubling page views

 5:23 pm on Feb 20, 2014 (gmt 0)

Yesterday's page views in Google Analytics appear to reported as exactly double the true value for one of my sites.

When I first looked at the figures I thought whoooppeee! Then I exported them to excel to see exactly what was happening. At that point I noticed that every reported page view value was an even number. No way! There are always some pages with 1 view at the end of the report but not this time, the lowest are all 2.

Don't get too happy if your page views for yesterday appear high - check it out first.

Yesterday and today's figures look fine.

I have the same issue for a couple of days now..It seems to be a few hours a day that the stats are wrong. Only the last day is doubled for me.

Have you reported the issue to Google?. It would help

No I haven't reported it. It's happening again today (yesterday's page views are doubled again).

I have lost all faith in G doing anything if I did report it, it will just go into the plex waste bin like every other report I have ever made in the past.

They must be aware of it though, it's not like a minor formatting error. And if it's like past times it will get corrected in the next few hours.

I had the same issue on March 3. Huge spike in analytics numbers not reflected in the performance reports or from Piwik.

Noticed a trend of a 25% dofferemce between the two in counting visitors, unique visitors and page views as well. (Guess which was lower.)

I experienced (across three properties) around double the pageviews/uniques on three occasions so far this month. On each property, numbers were corrected within 24 hours.

Today, I see that around 80% of all data has disappeared from another property which was visible in the account yesterday on hourly graphs. I'm hoping we'll see a correction of the soon :)

Note: We have recently passed the threshold of 10 million pageviews/month on one property, so it may be related to Analytics' limits.

so it may be related to Analytics' limits

Don't worry about that - I run a site with 0.1% of your monthly pageviews and experience the same. Encountered this odd behaviour since beginning of March. Today seems to be the fist day that it looks normal again.

Seeing spikes in my stats too which correct itself in a day or two. Maybe an April Fool's joke by GA in advance?

I have reported the issue to Google, let's hope they react (small chance). I'll let you guys know if I hear from them.

This message is now appearing at the top of my analytics page:

Universal properties created prior to December 2013 may temporarily report doubled Visits counts between the hours of 0500-0800 in the View timezone. This issue corrects itself automatically. We are working on a fix to address this issue as soon as possible.

If this is a reaction to the problem which I reported in February why has it taken G so long to let us know?

Now if only I know how to turn off that message. I've seen it. I got it. And I don't want to see it anymore. But where is the X button when you need it?

I notice this issue since January exactly on same times everyday. from 06:00 PM to 08:30 PM (+5GMT)

It's gone, so looked like they have solved it!
