Some years ago, I stopped having my logs analyzed on my server, because the load on the server was too much. Eventually, the load on my home computer got to being too much for httpAnalyze, and then WebLogExperts and some other programs. I have been quite happy since that time with Nihuo's Web Log Analyzer.
However, I was ill over the past weekend and didn't download my server's logfiles every morning, as is my custom. This morning, the compressed (*.gz) logfile was almost three hundred megs. Nihuo took two attempts, and much longer than I'd expected, to complete the analysis.
I'm starting to think that maybe my files are getting too large for my desktop to handle. However, I don't want my website to crash because I've got an analyzer chugging through my logfile on the server.
I am aware of this forum's Charter, which states that "[t]he most common question on the site is "which stats package do you recommend?". When people post this question, they clearly have not read this forum charter nor looked for their answer in the library. We cannot recommend packages, but have listed the main ones for you to make your own decisions here (link)". However, the recommendations at the link date from 2005; I'm sure things have changed in the almost eight years since.
While I understand that recommendations cannot be made here, I am in hopes that users may be familiar with URLs for reviews or comparisons which could prove helpful in my research.
