Alexa - is it bulldust or gold ?

Here's an extract from a site we run , the figures are altered slightly :

There are 250,000 sites with a better three-month global Alexa traffic rank than xyzsite.com

How would we ever know ?

The site is relatively popular among users in the cities of Adelaide (where it is ranked #3,000 ) and Sydney (#4,000 )


This site's visitors view 2.4 unique pages each day on average.

9.4 actually

Approximately 42% of visits to xyzsite.com are referred by search engines.

84% would be closer for this site

Approximately 44% of visits to the site consist of only one pageview (i.e., are bounces).

Good guess statistically across the globe. Actually it's 34% , but i did notice the last month was showing 100% on Alexa

Is Alexa good for anything indicative, or is it as inaccurate as this sample demonstrates across the board?

i used to pay attention to alexa.....but my experience is exactly the same as your stats and i personally do not enjoy worrying about hypothetical and conjured up numbers so i have moved on. i am sure there is a method to the "madness" but it fluctuates so much that i really cannot pay attention to it. I know guys that are very proud of their alexa rank....however i have sites that out rank those where it counts..google serps!
