Strange links in stats from Brazilian website?

 1:23 pm on Jul 20, 2009 (gmt 0)

Recently some of our websites (including a brand new blog!) have received links from a Brasilian blog that is entirely in Portuguese and not at all related to our niche. What's more is that when I went to visit the referral site, I couldn't even find the link!

Is there a way to get rid of these spammy incoming links? Will they hurt our sites? They are already throwing off our analytics.

That's interesting. I had exactly this about two weeks ago! A short flurry of visitors from a blog in Brasil that is entirely unrelated to my own field. Again, like you, couldn't find any trace of the link!

In the same vein, another site, one I'm working on and which presently just has a home page sitting on a .nl domain, had a recent explosion of visits - from Argentina. That's according to GA!

I've had the same thing happen to one of my sites. A brasilian notebook blog of some sort without a trace of my url.

mkroon, has this affected your site at all? i bet it's the same site...

Most likely there are no links from their site to yours at all - do a search for "log spam", which is by far the most likely explanation. :)

That does indeed sound the likely cause - thanks.
