Statistics software issue or Web Server problems ?
Awstats vs traffic from search engines

Msg#: 3718475 posted 1:24 pm on Aug 8, 2008 (gmt 0)

We have awstats installed on a server running on linux + php environment site is mysql database powered.

According to our last month statistics in awstats we received a total of 56711 unique visitors.
(this information is displayed on top of page under summary)

At the bottom of this statistics page we also find this information
Links from an Internet Search Engine - Full list
- Google 72826
- Windows Live 1895
- Yahoo! 1035
list goes on and we also have links from external sites other then search engines.
Total about 100000 uniques

This is confusing cause the total number of unique visitors = 56711
and total number of visitors from search engines = 100000 + direct visits + visitors from external sites

What should we do to further investigate the cause of this.

I've never seen AWStats numbers add up right for those figures on any site. I don't think they're all unique or all human visitors.
