Content Site Search Engine Is there such a thing? myrrh msg:3617729 12:40 am on Apr 3, 2008 (gmt 0) Having several content sites, I figured my sites would do quite well in the search engines if the e-commerce sites weren't included in the results. It seems like a search engine for content sites only would be a big hit. Is there such a thing? I've never come across one.

You'll need to start by using a CGI scripting language such as Perl.
I wrote a basic one in Perl that works well. It indexes all HTML files on the site and prioritises things like title tags and headers.
I might give you a copy if you can get yourself Perl working on your server.

Exalead [ exalead.com] has provided this as a feature for a while. They allow narrowing of searches to 'non-commercial' (it isn't perfect). They've done some very good things over at Exalead IMO.
Non-commercial results for 'webmasterworld' [ exalead.co.uk]
