We are a commercial truck financing company looking to try affiliate marketing. We are looking for affiliate software to help manage our affiliates. We are a small company and we don't expect to recruit a lot of affiliates so we don't need anything too expensive. Web based would be preferred. Any suggestions

imo, in-house versus network question needs more exploration... the advantages of a network are many.

Rhinofish, can you elaborate. Going in house or network is one of the questions we are pondering (by network I'm assuming you mean web based)

In-house is your own platform, whether you host it or not.
By Network, I mean folks like ShareASale or Avantlink (and many others).

Most of the networks I have looked at are NOT inexpensive, which is the title of this thread.

Most of them are geared to big advertising companies.

I am looking for a network that caters to small companies.

Any suggestions ?

I have an Opencart based website, which has a built in Affiliate system.

There are things they do that have high value, things that will impact you in many ways. Good luck on the path you're pursuing!
