I run a forum-type site centred around software topics (lots of open source) and other tech-related topics. I'm using Adsense for revenue and it works...sometimes. Usually the eCPM is low but when once in a while Adsense runs a good campaign and my CPC rises substantially for a couple of days before returning to its usual level.
I'm interested in trying out some affiliate marketing-type banners in place of it because I think I can probably choose products to promote more in line with my audience's interests than Adsense can on most days.
Is there any affiliate program focused on computer hardware/tech products? Seems like it should be marketable enough, but the selection of links I'm seeing in my CJ account is fairly small.

take a look at Digital River's One Network, it's focused on computer software products, selection is humongous.
