The odd thing is that their affiliates site is just fine. There are no announcements there about any outage, but I've had reports from a bunch of different people that my affiliate links aren't working and neither are affiliate links on other websites.

Not a network issue, this is server or load balancer issue. "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable" == capacity problem and nothing to do with network.

I wonder how many people delay or just don't purchase anymore from Amazon (or just maybe for a while). I've been in the online space for a few years now & I feel pretty safe about ordering things online...but this will make me think twice about ordering from Amazon - at least until it wears off a bit...but right now my sense of security isn't too high with them.

I mentioned that Amazon is losing money with PPC ads still running... If you haven't already, AMZ affiliates should consider pausing your ads.

Rumor is it's a botnet attack - [appscout.com...] There are 4 shoe merchants at Commission Junction that just sent out an email that they're experiencing a botnet attack and they're taking their sites down while some preventative measures are put in place and they hope to be back up within a week. Associated Press reported at 6 pm that Amazon "went down for more than two hours in the middle of the day Friday." | Shawn White, Keynote's director of external operations, says an error in the configuration of the Web site might have caused the shut down. White says another reason might have been be server overload, but he says Amazon has a history of being able to handle large loads of visitors....White says the Web site was back up to 60 percent capability around noon. |
